It seems to me that the best way to put these people into perspective is to ask what and who would they be if they didn't play a sport, know how to sing or play pretend on a screen. Take LeBron James for example, if he wasn't a giant who can accurately throw a ball...what would he be? Exactly. Pax

I first became aware of this when I saw Robert De Niro speaking publicly about the 2020 election. Boy was that an awakening. Like, why on Earth would these guys be so furious and passionate to sway the American elections in ANY way?? I don't buy their concerns one bit. There are of course people like Keanu Reeves who absolutely deserve praise. But I think you hit the nail on the head about the overwhelming majority of celebrities.

I do believe it is a by-product of social media. I don’t follow any celebrities on X or Facebook or Instagram. I never want to meet any of my “idols.” We have nothing in common, except that they and I both think they are fabulous. Not a great basis for a meaningful relationship.

Love your response and absolutely agree. But yeah, social media fucked our society up in more than one way.

I agree with this in a way, for this reason. We spend to much time wanting to be like other people rather being our selves, ring original and achieving our own dreams. The way celebrities are followed is toxic, also being even a fan is toxic in its own right. It’s definitely leading us and our children astray by design. Is this what you mean?

Not exactly. That was the case before social media. Now I think the problem is that many people believe celebrities to be just like them and relate to them more than to their fellows, and that's a mistake. So, people take advice from Taylor Swift and believe they're in the same boat with her even if in truth they aren't. Do you get my point now?

Yes and I think it is a very good point, also a very true point!! Preach it!!!

The current celebrity fascination is no different from promoting cat videos on social media.

Yeah they might be similar in a way but it's much worse still. People just adore cat videos because they're cute. They don't relate to cats as to buddies, not really.

there’s a difference between celebrities and stars. in most cases stars aren’t celebrities as we don’t CELEBRATE them

This is definitely a generational issue. When I was growing up celebrities were out of reach. No one was blogging to their fans about their celebrity life. Today to be "relevant" celebrities have to get people to think they "connect with them." But they do not and never will. Too many young people think Taylor Swift actually gives a friendless fu%K who they vote for.

You nailed it again! In my youth people might have been making idols out of The Beatles but they at least understood the distance between us and them.

Modern youth seriously believes that Taylor Swift is no different from their friends whatsoever and as you said that she gives a fuck of their lives and choices which us bullshit.
