This is my another three-year old article which proved to be prescient and is still eerily relevant.
Scientists aren’t Gods, and they aren't Flawless either
What I also don't like about all this COVID hysteria is that people like Dr Fauci and Joe Biden along with major media outlets promote an unhealthy reverence to scientists as to impeccable and flawless human beings who are beyond reproach by default, and, hence, who can't be questioned and critisized. Like, scientists are apparently morally superior to regular people, they're absolutely morally perfect just like Christian God, and they can't possibly be corrupt and greedy for money and power, they can't lie or mislead people on purpose either. Also, scientists are 100% objective, they can't be biased by default. Moreover, scientists are always absolutely competent, they never make mistakes, and always know the exactly correct solution, even when faced with a completely new virus and proposing an absolutely new strategy to combat it.
Basically, scientists aren't human beings, they are perfect gods, and we, stupid mortals, must listen to them and obey every their word, often against evidence of our own eyes. Why? Because they're omnipotent and omniscient gods, and we're just dumb and ignorant mortals. TRUST THE SCIENCE, after all! Only what does this attitude remind you of - scientific or religious, or to be more precise, cultist one? When some people are worshiped like gods, every their opinion is taken as an absolute truth by default which we aren't allowed to even question, this is a CULT, not SCIENCE any longer.
Now, I'm not suggesting that all scientists are necessarily biased, corrupt and incompetent liars, nope. I'm saying that scientists are HUMAN, not DIVINE. And human nature is flawed and, alas, is a subject to corruption, bias and incompetence. So, scientists MIGHT BE corrupt, biased and incompetent, just like every other human beings. They are not exempt from that. The fact that our media want to show scientists as always objective, flawless and competent, should alarm you in the first place. This cultist attitude has nothing to do with an actual science.
Also, new Woke mantra 'Trust the Science' doesn't actually make any sense. Science isn't a united singular entity (like Christian God) whom we have to trust/believe. Science consists of multiple experts with different opinions. All of them are legit and valid, and scientific consensus in truth is a very rare thing. Usually, we have different scientific theories and explanations for almost every issue because yeah, almost every issue is pretty complex and multifaceted. So this oversimplification of science should alarm you as well.
Why do we have so much of a scientific consensus now all of a sudden, and so few of a dissent? Could it perhaps be that all scientific dissent was just stifled and censored, and only scientific theories aligned with a certain perspective were allowed to get public coverage? Could it be that when we hear 'trust the science', it's in truth mean 'trust the SCIENTIFIC AUTHORITY', e.g., top experts like Dr Fauci, CDC, WHO, who (ab-) use their authority to push down certain perspective and to shut down and silence all the dissent in a scientific community?
What, looks like a conspiracy to you? So, you think it's impossible for top-tier scientists to push certain theories using their authority in a scientific world, and to shut down other ones in the contrary? This happens even at university level, and surely it could happen on international level as well. As for motivation for it, well, money, power? Scientists need money to do their research, after all. So, if certain political and corporate players would give them these money in exchange for promoting of certain perspective (even if false) and shutting down of another ones (even if correct) in scientific world, do you really believe they'd disagree?
Again, one has to be extremely naive to really believe that every word of every scientist, and especially of top-tier ones, is an absolute truth beyond questioning. Science and scientists could and should be questioned. If we stop question them and trust every their word instead, it's cult, or religion, but not a science any longer.
You should also not confuse science with a scientific authority. Science consists of multiple experts with different perspective and opinions. They might sometimes reach a consensus, but pretty rarely. If you see that now there's a 'scientific consensus' almost on every issue, most likely it's a result of censorship, and not a genuine consensus. If you simply choose to believe just top scientific experts like Dr Fauci or WHO, and ignore all other scientific perspectives, you trust the scientific authority, and not an actual science. Good luck with that, you young cultists.
At one of the first lectures I attended in Medical School the professor told us that "half of what we teach you here today will be wrong in 10 years." So, science is never "settled."
I am a scientist, and lost faith in science.
