Could Christianity Really Save Us from Jihadism and Wokeism?
Christian Conservatism is a Double-Edged Sword
Since our Western secular liberalism failed to protect us from both of those dangerous ideologies as I had explained in my previous piece, then WHAT could? This is an essential question every sane human being in the West should ask if we wanna avoid new kind of ideological tyranny in the West or even our civilization collapse.
Some liberal thinkers suggested that we need to ally with Christians despite all our disagreements and to restore Christian values in the Western society. The strong part of this argument is that Christianity, UNLIKE secular liberalism, indeed HAS defenses against BOTH Islamism and Wokeism. Christianity would NOT tolerate neither rivaling religion - e.g., Islam, nor such 'heresy' as secular mysticism - Wokeism, as well. Indeed, when our society still retained Christian values, we did NOT have such HUGE amount of both Woke Commies and HAMAS cheerleaders in the West. They are byproducts of secular liberalism, sadly.
Indeed, countries which retained at least SOME Christian values - like Latin American or Eastern Europeans ones - proved to be immune both to Woke or Jihadist infections. They did not take as many Islamist refugees as their liberal counterparts, and neither did they allow Woke Commies to infest their academia. Hence, Christian solution might indeed work. Or not?
Honestly, I'm not so sure. First of all, I do not believe that it is possible to step into the same river TWICE. Christian train had already left our platform, for bad or for good, and we can't really catch up with it anymore. And what's about Latin America and Eastern Europe? Well, the point is that Christian train had never really left their platforms, unlike ours. Despite Soviet occupation, Eastern Europeans continued to resist it and to hold their Christian beliefs against Communist propaganda (one more proof that Christianity works against secular mystic ideologies, by the way). And Latin Americans had never really even lost touch with their beliefs.
Hence, for both of them it's different. Our society, in the contrary, had grown out of Christianity, and I'm not sure that we can come back to it, same as adults can't really become children again. And even if it WAS possible, should we really do it? Just like with adult becoming a child again, it would be a degradation of our mental capacities with many regards, if we would AGAIN allow a religious belief (instead of our brain!) think for us.
Indeed, look for example at Eastern European and Latin American countries. Yeah they are bulletproof to Woke and Jihadist infections, but are they perfect with other regards though? Far from it. Look at the levels of sexism and homophobia in Eastern Europe, look at abortion and gay marriage bans there. Look at all the Latin American machismo. Look at their high crime rates as well. Is this what we should aim for? I hardly think so. Yeah, perhaps it all is STILL LESSER EVIL than Wokeism and Jihadism, but it is EVIL nevertheless. Hence, I believe that we should choose another way.
